Louisiana Employers and Jury Duty

In Louisiana, employers must provide one day of paid leave to employees who have been called to jury duty. Further, the day cannot be counted against the employee’s sick leave, vacation or paid time off. The employer may be fined between $100 and $500 for each violation of this requirement.

In cases where an employee is selected for jury duty that takes longer than one day, the employer must permit the employee to take off, but the employer may consider the time off as unpaid leave. The employee must be allowed to use any vacation, sick leave or paid time off during the time they served on jury duty.
